Ellen Lundy

Videographer | Filmmaker

Tell us a little about your role as a filmmaker and where you find inspiration?

My key departments are editing and camera operation, however when you produce films on a low budget you get stuck into all departments (which I am used to and love)I find inspiration everywhere. From art, the news, and simply having a conversation with someone.

What excites you / makes you jump out of bed in the morning?

I balance my filmmaking work with a 9- 5 job in Marketing and I love it. What excites me initially when I wake up is porridge and coffee. But throughout the day what excites me is telling a story. Even in Marketing I am telling a story, the story of the brand. Writing and rewriting, editing, collaborating. It’s an exciting and challenging process.

Who inspires you most and why?

My mum. She is full of wisdom and has taught me so much. Since a young age she made an effort to teach me about powerful women with extraordinary stories. She definitely is the reason why am so passionate about the power of storytelling.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Depends on the day. Unfortunately I don’t have much of a routine. But typically I try to fit in around work: oat milk cappuccinos, walks, Pilates, cooking something vegan, sketching out new ideas to film.

What are you proud of?

I’m super proud of 24 year old me going to Nepal on my own as a one woman film ‘crew’ filming about education inequality and sex trafficking. Then went to Uganda on my own to film about education inequality and sexual health. I can’t believe I did it, especially alone. It taught me a lot and I will never forget it.

What has been the biggest personal and business lesson you've learned?

You don’t have to be a ‘yes woman’; it’s more badass to say ‘no’.

What's one thing you know now that you wish you'd known as a teenager?

You don’t need men to validate you.

Any great advice that you've ever been given or any advice that you'd like to share with our evolve audience?

Listen to understand, not to respond.
